WELCOME TO BAND!!
We are thrilled to welcome you into the Woonsocket Middle School Music Department this year! As a part of the band, this promises to be an exciting and fun-filled year.

REHEARSALS
Band is scheduled during their encore period. Students should report to the band room at this time as they would any other scheduled class. In addition to our in-school class time, we also will hold after-school rehearsals. The dates are listed below, as well as the location. The rehearsal will be held from 2-3pm in the Villanova Band/Choral Room.
MARCHING REHEARSALS - WEDNESDAYS: 9/13, 9/20, 9/27 & 10/4
*Attendance at these is mandatory for all band members.
CONCERT BAND REHEARSALS- Will be determined after Autumnfest Parade!
If a student is unable to attend a rehearsal, for whatever reason, they MUST BRING IN A SIGNED NOTE TO THE BAND DIRECTOR!
The band director will then assign a graded assignment to make up for the absence.
If a student does not show to rehearsal, and does not inform the directors via a signed note (absence from school on the day of rehearsal is the only exception, but a graded assignment must still be completed), they will face the following discipline action:
PERFORMANCES
As a member of the band, students are expected to participate in performances:
Autumnfest Parade - October 10/9
Concerts - Holiday - 12/18 - WHS 7pm (snow date 12/20)
Spring - 6/5 - WHS 7pm
RIMEA Jr. High Band Festival - 3/30 or 3/31 (Exeter/West Greenwich)
PawSox - May
PERFORMANCE ATTIRE
Formal Concerts: students are to wear black pants/skirt and a white shirt/blouse. Students are encouraged to look their best for these concerts. There are other field trips and performances that come about through the course of the school year.
Less Formal Concerts: students will wear WMS Music Department tee shirts. These will be on sale soon for a nominal fee (less than $10).
INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE
Students are expected to practice at home 20 minutes or more everyday. Students need to keep the muscles around their mouths strong. Students progress will be checked once a week. Assignments may be given and recorded in practice rooms for a grade.
BEHAVIOR POLICY
Band is a high-caliber group and elective class at Woonsocket Middle School. We have the highest expectations of our students.

GRADING POLICY
Band is an encore class, and students will complete assignments to be graded. Some assignments are written, and some are performance assessments. All performance assessments are graded on specific skills that are being developed through warmups and exercises in rehearsal.
50% Concert music assessment
20% Scales
20% Sight Reading/Music Theory
10% Self Reflection Forms
